A 33-minute Documentary Film DVD
Under
the Bodhi Tree, filmed in the winter of 2004, features His Holiness
the XVII Gyalwa Karmapa as he leads a nine-day prayer ceremony
called the Kagyu Monlam. From his seat under the historic Bodhi
Tree in Bodhgaya, the place of Sakyamuni Buddha’s enlightenment,
the Karmapa performs the ceremonies and ritual empowerments,
accompanied by high Lamas of the Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism.
A vivid and intimate portrait of Tibetan Buddhism as this holiest
of sites includes commentary by the Karmapa.

“...Revered by followers
as a master teacher…[the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa] is the embodiment
of wisdom and compassion, a ‘reincarnate lama’ or
teacher who has achieved enlightenment yet returns to the human
world, lifetime after lifetime, to help others do the same.”
~ The New York Times,
May 16th, 2008

The
lineage of the Karmapa’s originated in the twelfth century
in Tibet. Regarded as living Buddhas, they have led the Karma
Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism since that time. The Karmapas
were the first line of Tulkus, incarnate Lamas who choose the
circumstances of their own birth. The XVII Karmapa was born
in Tibet in 1985 and discovered according to a letter of prediction
left by his predecessor. His Holiness made a dramatic escape
from Tibet in the winter of 2000. He now lives in India.
Proceeds from the sale of this DVD support the Kagyu Monlam
and His Holiness The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa. Filmed by Mark Elliott.
Produced by Mark Elliott and Lama Karma Chodrak.
